2. Deposition of Robert Brincklowe.[1] [Undated. June-July 1616]
Clerk, vicar of West Wittering about 17 years; before at Lewes, rector of St Thomas at Cliffe about 4 years; born in City of London; aged about 58. Signature.
To the allegation ex parte John Markwick [Al (2) 1-6].
Al (2) 1. That about the time mentioned in this article there was such a suit commenced by Richard Tayler against Margaret Osborne alias Markwick. For the rest refers to court acts.
Al (2) 2. That Richard Tayler did produce certain witnesses and there was a sentence given against him. For the rest refers to court acts.
Al (2) 3. That he did not appeal from the sentence for ought he ever heard. For the rest does not know.
Al (2) 4. That upon the 19th day of May 1603 Robert Brincklowe by virtue of a licence did solemnise a marriage between John Markwick and Margaret Osborne in the parish church of West Wittering according to the Book of Common Prayer and the rites and ceremonies of the Church of England. For the rest does not know.
Al (2) 5. That he doth believe that Richard Tayler had knowledge of the marriage. For the rest does not know.
Al (2) 6. That deposition is true.
3. Deposition of Nicholas Hoskin.[2] [Undated. June-July 1616]
Of West Wittering, yeoman, where has lived since birth; aged about 50. Signature.
To the allegation ex parte John Markwick [Al (2) 1-6].
Al (2) 4. That, upon the 19th day of May last past was 13 years, there was a marriage between John Markwick and Margaret Osborne in West Wittering, and after such marriage he and she were commonly reputed and taken for man and wife, and lived together as man and wife for the space of 6 years.
Al (2) 5. That he is confidently persuaded that Richard Tayler had knowledge that John Markwick and Margaret did live and cohabit together.
