Johnston in Sussex Notes & Queries, November 1949.:This article (based on a paper read to Section E of the British Association at Brighton on the 9th September 1948) is an admirable account of the growth of Brighton, Hove and the adjoining built-up areas illustrated by good reproductions of maps and plans (including one of the French Attack in 1514). There can be nothing but praise for this Article; it is clearly and attractively written and appeals to the ordinary man as well as to experts in Town-planning and Social Problems and deserves to be widely known and read by all interested in Sussex.
