An adventure beset with danger and fear, but eventually, like every good story, one in which the hero prevails. For the children who listened to this story there was an extra thrill contained within it. For this was no fairy-tale but the actual life of their mutual great-grandfather, James BEST. Embedded so well in their minds was it that they both, as they neared the end of their lives, committed it to paper so it would not be lost to future generations. This is how I know the story some 200 years after it took place.
