Abstract:
The main narrative for St. Richard's career and miracles is the Life written by Ralph Bocking in about 1270. A Dominican friar, Bocking knew Richard during his lifetime and acted as his confessor. Richard may also have told him his life story. Bocking could therefore draw upon his own memories and several of his anecdotes are couched in the first person. He also had access to the minutes of the canonization enquiry. The publication of this Story of Saint Richard marks the 750th anniversary of his death.
