Salzman] in Sussex Notes and Queries, November 1961:In this book Dr. Olson gives a sketch of the career of Charles, 3rd Duke of Richmond, and a selection of his letters to contemporary statesmen. Upright, hardworking and unpopular, his considerable ability failed to achieve success, largely because of a tactlessness which led to his quarrelling with everyone from King George III downwards. Dr. Olson is mainly concerned with his political contacts, and there is little about the good work that he did at the Ordnance Office, and still less about his life at Goodwood, where his building activities were largely responsible for converting his great revenues into great debts.
