Review by Margaret Pearce in Sussex Family Historian vol. 20 no. 4, December 2012:An informative and fascinating book on education during the 1800s to the present day at these West Sussex schools, with photographs. There are individual chapters on the schools, a brief chronology of education from 1249 when Oxford University was founded, to 2008 when the school leaving age was raised to 17 including Education Acts during those years.
The chapter on School Punishment Books dating from 1907 to 1983 had very detailed descriptions of the cause, the date, and the punishment given, usually caning or a smack on the arm. My conclusive opinion of these 'causes' - kids don't change!!
