The Rowland family has been settled in the parish of Horsham from early in the 16th century, originating from one of three brothers living there. It was then of sufficient standing for two of these brothers to be buried within the parish church. For over 250 years the family had a close association with the General Baptist chapels of Horsham and Ditchling, and supplied a minister at Horsham in Stephen Rowland 1777-1786
