Allen and Daniel Evershed and their forefathers had lived in Shipley and Washington for three generations but, being adventurous, these two and their brother George had emigrated to Australia not long before the Great War. Their great-grandfather Samson Evershed had eight children and Job his only surviving son married Frances Tidy in 1838. They had 13 children and the eleventh child Daniel Tidy Evershed (1855-1928) married Sarah Jane Golds They had 8 children including Allen (1881-1918) who served in the Royal Sussex Regiment and the Australian Imperial Force and Daniel (1885-1918) who served in the Australian Imperial Force.
