In the 1820s Eli Frederick Astridge and his brother Charles moved to Midhurst. All the Sussex Astridges are descended from these two bothers. One of these descendants was Joseph Samuel Astridge who married Louisa Bridger in 1883 at Midhurst and four of their eight children emigrated to Canada.
