Edward Edwards was born 3 January 1868 at Holtye to Richard and Elizabeth Edwards.  He married Esther Friend in 1892, lived in Portslade where they had three children, and moved to Forest Row in 1898 where he took over the wheelwright's business run by the Mitchell family. They had three more children at Forest Row.
