Edward Palmer was baptised on 30 December 1708 at Charlton Marshall, Dorset the son of Reverend Samuel Palmer and Catherine Wake. Edward was educated at Merton College, Oxford and in 1732 became curate at his father's church at Wylye, Wiltshire. He was ordained Deacon in 1733, Priest in 1736 and became Vicar of St Mary the Virgin at Ringmer that year a position he held until his death in 1747. He married Mary and they had three children.
