Abstract:
Account of a dispute concerning the result of a horse race at Midhurst in Whitsun Week 1717. The dispute, between the Duke of Somerset and Francis Whitcombe was not settled until 1727, when the Duke confirmed that Mr Whitcombe did indeed own the horse, but that the horse (winner of the Silver Plate) should be sold to the Duke for six guineas!
