Preview:Thomas Tipper, proprietor of the New Inn at Newhaven was of yeoman class, a property owner and employer. He was literate and well educated and was known for his intelligent wit and sense of humour. He had great business acumen and would have taken great pleasure (and profit) in providing refreshment for the townspeople and also for the many sailors visiting the port.
