(121) HANGLETON, St. Helen
The latest extant part of the mediaeval church is the 14th-century chancel - Nairn & Pevsner (457-8); the oldest building in the City of Brighton and Hove is now surrounded by a post-WW2 estate, c.f. the view in Clayton (SAC 34 167); the 1724 report was that the fabric was fine but the chancel needed roof repairs, see Ford (132), perhaps relevant for the condition of 121B.

- 174(W) x 143(H)~Worn; water damage; local losses (columns).
- In soft freestone; above, straight entablature; triglyphs in frieze; in centre, moulded panels; flanking columns now lost; kneelers (male to right), he armoured; captions lost; prayer desk; 5 sons (right); 4 daughters (left); below, flowers, vase, 5 dead infants in chrisoms; at foot, base mouldings, in the antique manner, relief masks on pedestals.
