(15) BALCOMBE, St. Mary

Recently repaired in 1724 (Ford); major changes were made to the church (except for the tower) in 1847-50 - Nairn & Pevsner (401) and perhaps again in 1873 (SNQ V 56); see DJW Piper 'Henry Chatfield' SNQ (XVI 16ff) for an account of the dominant local family; Balcombe Addition (1) was perhaps lost during these 19th-century church restorations.
