(180) NEWHAVEN, St. Michael
Norman (12th-century) tower & apse, remade from 1854 - Nairn & Pevsner (570-1), VCH (VII, 65) and see plan in SNQ (III 157); floors reported as in bad condition in 1724 (Ford); a view of 1787, see Godfrey & Salzman (Pl.115), seen from North, shows churchyard largely empty, prior to construction of important monuments to Captain James Hanson (d. 1800) and the brewer Thomas Tipper (d. 1785); Horsfield (Sussex I 191-5) found nothing inside Newhaven worth noting, somewhat puzzling considering Newhaven's (or Meeching as it was known) importance as a port.

- M.I. (6 + 5 lines) filling most of an unframed grey-veined marble panel, now plastered into the wall.

- M.I. (12 lines, engraved, black, centred) on a white rectangular panel; thin black baseplate; signed (below, centred): 'PARSONS. LEWES'.

180C Several Anonymous ledgers, dates unknown
- Entrance porch floor, to South of sanctuary, largely covered by furnishings.
