(147) JEVINGTON, St. Andrew
Saxon; Early English North aisle - Nairn & Pevsner (546); church reported to be in fine condition in 1686 and 1724 (Ford 51; 175), when the patron was Sir George Parker (see 297D); Horsfield (Sussex I 288) notes many slabs in the chancel; monuments at Jevington are mostly to former residents of Wannock, a house in the parish.

147C A wall-mounted brass for Thomas MARKWICK, d. 1610
- Choir, South wall, 1 of 3 (lower), on a brass plate, then on wood.
- 40(W) x 10(H)~Fragmentary.
- M.I. (3 lines) on an irregular brass plate, other (later) lettering showing through.
- Thomas Marckwycke, of Wannock, buried 9 Mar 1610.
147D Mural monument for Charles ROCHESTER, d. 1758
- Choir, South wall, at head height.
- 150(W) x 285(H)~Excellent; no colour.
- In grey, white and patterned marbles; male & female portrait reliefs in a framed roundel, with scrolled side and a curved top; above, in half relief, an urn flanked by flaming torches; below, base mouldings and a sarcophagus on clawed feet, with egg-and-dart and a M.I. on a panel; below, a decorative marble border; then an apron with an escutcheon in a Baroque frame.

147E Mural monument for Robert ROCHESTER, d. 1725, and members of his family
- Choir, North wall, at head height.
- 101(W) x 184(H)~Excellent; colour mostly lost.
- Fluted Doric pilasters carry a broken, pointed pediment enclosing an achievement; in the centre; M.I. (27 lines, engraved, centred, black) in several stages; below, thick, darker grey base moulding and scrolly corbels; between them a delicate cherub in low relief.
- Robert Rochester, Esq., of Wannock, d. 15 Aug 1725, aet 51; his wife, Jane, d. 21 Mar 1747, aet 69, second daughter of Nicholas Eversfield, Charleton, Steyning; their issue  second son, William, d. 16 Sep 1740, aet 35, and William's only son, also Robert, d. 26 Sep 1739, aet 10; and the youngest son, another Robert, d. 31 Mar 1738, aet 26, buried St. George the Martyr, Queen Square, London.

- 55(W) x 75(H)~Excellent; fading.
- M.I. (8 lines, engraved, centred, black) on convex cartouche; elegant scrolled frame; shell decorations top and bottom.
