Kent, Sussex and Surrey mentioned in the Domesday Book (239), in use as stepping stones to the tower, by 1940 these were affixed to the vestry wall with a third; by the later 1930s, the Victorian fittings were removed and the stone floor replaced to reveal 'gravestones' previously obscured by tiles or woodwork; altar rails obtained in Brighton, probably ex-Barcombe church - SNQ (VI 23); Willatts (SAC 125 102) notes four iron slabs here; the parish had 100 families in 1724 and a population of 794 in 1801.
