137G Mural monument for Saphira LIGHTMAKER, d. 1704

-  Chancel, South wall, at head height.

-  114(W) x 222(H)~Very good; rust spots; faded.

-  Grey marble frame; straight entablature; Ionic pilasters; M.I. (engraved) fills white marble tablet, set portrait-wise; M.I. includes a line of Greek; above, a decorated escutcheon; below, a thick curved base moulding; curved apron with foliate relief; cherub's head as corbel.

-  Saphira Lightmaker, d. 20 Dec 1704, aet 81, wife of Edward Lightmaker, Gent., of Broadhurst, Sussex, a widow for 44 years; daughter of Dr. Alexander Leighton, D.D.; sister to Robert Leighton, late archbishop of Glasgow, buried at Horsted Keynes; sister to Sir Ellis Leighton, Knt, also buried at Horsted Keynes. Her grandchildren - Thomas Pigott, son of William Pigott, Gent., of Limesfield, Surrey, d. 8 Mar 1702, aet 11; Mary Pigott, daughter of William Pigott, d. 10 Apr 1702, aet 21. Her great grandchildren - Thomas Osborne junior, d. 4 Apr 1706, aet 4; son of Thomas Osborne, of Newtimber, armiger; - Elizabeth Osborne, daughter of the same Thomas Osborne, 12 Apr 1706, aet 3.
